The Program:

Located in Asheville, NC, Trips For Kids WNC was founded on November 18, 2010.  The goal of Trips For Kids WNC is to provide mountain bike outings and environmental education for kids who would not otherwise be exposed to such activities.

After spending several years in the child mental health field,  and finding a lack of options for local youth to participate in cycling,  Stephen decided it was time to jump in and do something about it.  After meeting with various local youth and cycling advocates, the plans developed with seeming ease.  The chapter was approved and the program was rolled out to the public.

Trips For Kids WNC has facilitated over 500 kids on trips in the first year and we look forward to offering our services to many more in the future.

The Director:

Stephen grew up riding his bike all over Bonaire, the Caribbean island he spent most of his teen years on.  After moving back to the US, he ended up riding his bike on the entire Blue Ridge Parkway, across America- from San Diego, CA to Wilmington, NC.  In recent years, he has completed several long distance endurance mountain biking events:   3 time finisher of the Pisgah MTB Stage Race, Cohutta 100, Burn 24, Cowbell Challenge and more.  Recently he created a new self contained bike packing route through Pisgah National Forest: The Pisgah Traverse.
